Trickery

Jacob doesn't like to drink milk. This wasn't an issue until I stopped nursing him. Really, it still isn't an issue, as he takes a Flintstones multivitamin every morning and the doctor told me not to force him to drink it if he didn't want to, but I still have this nagging thought in my mommy brain. He needs calcium! Milk makes you grow up to be big and strong! etc. So I keep offering it to him. He takes a big swig and then gets this look on his face like he's been tricked and he is HIGHLY offended. He typically spits it out and then says "Moots?!?" in a way that really screams "Are you freaking kidding me, Mom?? How many times do I have to tell you? NO MOOTS!"

I decided I had to get creative. I'm not much of a milk drinker myself but there are some foods that really make me crave a cold glass of milk. Namely, chocolate and PB&J sandwiches. AHA! I decided to make Jacob a PB&J for lunch, something I never feed him for the simple fact that cleaning it up is horrifying. I cut the sandwich up into little bite sized pieces. I even removed the crust. I put the cubes on his tray along with a sippy cup full of milk. Then I kind of went and hid in the kitchen where I could watch him without disrupting what was about to happen! Or so I thought. He seemed to really enjoy the PB&J and ate several bites before stopping for air...and a drink. He picked up his sippy cup and took 3 or 4 BIG GULPS. He was swallowing it, too, which was an achievement on its own. He usually spits it out as soon as he tastes what it is. Suddenly, he stopped chugging and got that "tricked" look on his face and spit out what he had in his mouth.

"MOOTS???"

There was no unringing THAT bell.
He hasn't had any milk since.
