Key West Dachshund Walk

Today was the annual Key West Dachshund Walk. I really wanted to go to this last year but we didn't make it so I was determined to get there today! Dachshunds are such funny dogs. My parents have a miniature dachshund named Fritz aka Mr. Woofcakes. He is a nasty, stinky little dog and my mom loves him the way only a mother could.

These pictures are for you, Mom!

Cheese!

This one was huge. The picture doesn't really show it but most of the dachshunds were miniatures and this was a standard dachshund. It was kinda shocking to see!

This one looks like Mr. Woofcakes.

These dogs were dressed like Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Hot dog with ketchup. Jacob liked the ones in costume the best (obviously!)
Another hot dog.

Bride & Groom
Ballerina?
Jacob made friends with a little girl sitting next to him. They were playing with her toy dog that was NOT a dachshund!
Old, patriotic dog
Jacob was pointing and saying LUCY! I'm not sure that is a schnauzer but I appreciated the mustard on his back. A little variety from all those ketchup hot dogs...I prefer mustard...
Yet another hot dog...

Big Brother (in training)

Today Jacob found his old play mats tucked away in the back of his closet. One of the many pieces of his babyhood that I hung onto with secret-ish hopes that one day he would have a baby sibling who could use it. After we found out that Jacob's prophetic claims of "baby sister" were true, the bin of tiny boy clothes got passed along to friends and neighbors. But the play mats stayed because sometimes it doesn't matter what color it is as long as it works.

Today, we pulled out the play mats for "baby sister" and Jacob helped me carefully hang each little toy. I tried to explain that the baby wouldn't need the mat for several more months but he insisted we pull them out today. He has told me, in his 2 year old way, that he will share his room and his bed with his sister. Sometimes he seems wise beyond his years and I know he is going to make a thoughtful and loving big brother.

Wild Child

Sometimes Jacob really surprises me by doing something so meticulous and with such great patience that I wonder what happened to him.

More Christmas

I had to post this one of Jacob with his Buzz Lightyear. He is obsessed!

These are the pajamas that never made an appearance on Christmas. He thought it was a clown costume so he wore it for a few minutes but I have been unsuccessful in attempts to get him into it again.

Christmas

Christmas was really fun this year because Jacob knew and understood what was going on. We got our first Christmas tree and got to do some of the things I remember doing as a child. I definitely felt grown up this year, and really homesick for my own family since I was doing many of the things that my mom usually does. This is the first year we did it on our own. We survived and even had fun! I only took 2 pictures on Christmas morning. We put the presents out 2 days before and Jacob surprisingly didn't mess with them very much. I suppose they could have gone out earlier but we didn't want to risk it. :) We have been talking about Santa Claus for weeks and he has told me in no uncertain terms that he wants Santa to bring him a Buzz Lightyear. So, when he woke up on Christmas morning, he immediately remembered that Santa should have come in the night and he needed to get out there. I couldn't get him to put on his cute pajamas because he just urgently needed to get out and see what Santa brought. So we did Christmas morning in his undies...which is his usual attire.

The only thing we set out that showed Santa came was the cozy coupe and the slide from my parents, only because they were too big to wrap. Buzz was wrapped and under the tree but he obviously did not realize this. When he saw the big stuff, he said "Darn it!" and covered his face. We need to work on concealing our emotions a little bit. ;) We opened all of his presents under the tree which took well over an hour because he wanted to play with each thing he opened. We really didn't have a lot of gifts for him....he was just slow. The last thing he got to open was Buzz Lightyear and that just really stole the show. By the time he got to it, it seemed like he had forgotten about it or given up hope that he was going to get it. So I really liked the surprise of that gift. And I'm not good at surprises!! Everything he had under the tree was Toy Story or train themed and he loves everything he got. He has been playing with his new toys nonstop. Thank you to our sweet families for making this Christmas so special for Jacob!

Potty Training: The Final Round

I have to brag on Jacob. He slept in a Pull Up for the first time last night and woke up DRY! I am so proud of him. Hopefully this isn't a fluke or beginners luck but only time will tell. 2 nights ago he slept in the last disposable diaper we had. I made up my mind right then that I was NOT going to buy anymore diapers. He has been using the potty since June but I haven't really pushed him to go all the way. A lot of the time it is just more convenient for me to keep a diaper on him so I don't have to worry about finding a toilet in a crunch. I have even told him to "just pee in the diaper" before when it was inconvenient to take him to the bathroom. Talk about sending this poor guy mixed signals. Thankfully the only issue we have is with peeing and I have not had to change a dirty diaper in months. He wore underwear all day yesterday (and had several accidents) and then slept in the Pull Up. But we are not turning back. He is wearing underwear again today and hopefully he will catch on quickly.

Wish us luck!

A few more from the pancake breakfast

These pictures popped up in an album on the MWR facebook page and I think they are pretty funny so I wanted to post them. I obviously did not take any of these pictures.

This picture is so awkward and funny but give me a break! It was 7:30 on Saturday morning! I don't remember that child and I really don't know why we are watching him so intently. I just wanted to post this one because I think Jacob looks exactly like baby Jordan here. He always looks like his dad in my humble opinion but in this picture he could be Jordan!
This picture is also hilarious to me because he looks like he is seriously about to cut that pancake up. He even has pretty good form in the way he is holding his utensils. But I'm almost positive at this point he is going to be right handed and he didn't get the pancake cut up at all so this photo is somewhat deceiving...
Here is Jacob in the top right with Priscilla waiting for his turn to get a candy cane. As I mentioned before, once he got the candy cane he didn't care one bit about the pancake that was a little on the mangled side by then.

His jeans are indeed flooding. They are 18-24 month size and they fit in the waist but he is too tall. I just bought him a pair of 2T Levi's at Sears and they are way too big in the waist and a little too long in the legs. We are just waiting for him to grow out of yet another in-between stage!

Pancake Breakfast With Santa

We got up bright and early to be at a pancake breakfast/Santa Claus event at the NEX at 7:30am. This was a feat in itself but we obviously made it. The kids were all served a free pancake and some orange juice and we ate outside waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. He made his debut in the fire truck with sirens blaring which everyone (under the age of 10) loved.
Here he comes!
Yep, there's Santa riding in the official Navy fire truck!
Jacob was in a really good mood considering how early it was. I actually had to wake him up in order to leave. He wakes up like clockwork UNLESS we have somewhere to be and then he sleeps in. I can guarantee it.
When Santa got out of the fire truck he walked around and gave all the kids candy canes. Jacob was pretty indifferent about him...he just accepted the candy cane and then focused all of his attention on getting it open. He didn't finish his pancake because the candy cane intervened.

Santa went inside and then the kids could go in and sit on his lap, etc. but we didn't ever make it inside. There were a bunch of little boys out running around and Jacob was having so much fun I figured if I tried to pull him away he would have a melt down and not cooperate for Santa anyway. After awhile, he came to me with rosy cheeks and said "Mommy, I go home." And that was that. We have several more opportunities to sit on Santa's lap so that is the main reason I didn't try harder to get a picture this time. I have never gotten Jacob's picture with Santa so I would really like to accomplish that at least once this holiday season!

Maternity Shoot Preview

My friend Keely is working on a photography portfolio and she asked me to be a model for the maternity section. I'm about 22 weeks along right now so this was the first of 2 shoots. We will do another one when I am closer to my due date. Here is a little preview of what she achieved this evening:

I'm excited to see how the rest turn out. It's a lot of fun having someone else take pictures of us!

Truck Day

Truck Day happened over a month ago at Jacob's preschool. We were very late because I had to pull over and rescue a turtle. But that's a story for another day. I took Jacob and our neighbor Brody to see the trucks and they got to check out a couple of them before they all drove away. It was a lot of fun for them to see the ambulance and some of the huge machinery like the tractor. I honestly forgot all about truck day and these 2 lonely pictures I took until this morning when Jacob and Brody were playing and I heard Brody say "truck day." Yes, this day made such a lasting impression on them that they are still talking about it today. I think that is saying something for a couple of 2 year old boys!

He also got to go inside the ambulance but I didn't get a picture of that. Jacob points out any kind of large vehicle he sees when we are out running around. He gets really excited about the fire trucks but he will point out most other vehicles including the city bus!

It's a GIRL!

Here are some ultrasound pictures of our 2nd baby. It's a girl! I couldn't believe it and honestly I still don't think it has fully set in but I am thrilled! The ultrasound technician was 100% positive and showed us the "girl parts" several times.

Christmas is coming!

The Christmas countdown has begun! Jacob and I enjoyed some eggnog with our breakfast. He definitely got my sweet tooth. Our house is about as decked out as it is going to get this year and we are in a very festive mood.
